No the revised version is the "current" one with 4P and the 5P expansion, but will soon be expanded with the extra decks. So there might not even be a super deluxe complete version- what I'm saying is the current "revised" edition will in due course become a fairly sizeable version with 800 odd cards in total, by the time they are done this might in any case end up being a quasi deluxe version, and if they do a "mega deluxe" version it might not have many(any) more cards than the eventual end Point of the current Mayfair line.

Ah I gotcha. So are they no longer doing the 10th anniversary edition at all? Does anyone know?

I don't mind buying the new stuff, but I don't want to bother if they still plan to do a version with 1,000 cards.

I'm not sure if its confirmed but I *think* they are planning on a deluxe version, maybe its best to ask Alex Yaegar at Mayfair games. Whether they plan on adding any extra cards I dont know but its possible the deluxe edition might just be "everything" (from the revised line, but I guess including promos and the cards which came with the minis etc) with some posher components, but Im only speculating, I dont think theyve really formalised anything.

I wouldnt intentionally pass on the forthcoming expansions for this in lieu of a deluxe edition, its very likely that might just be a super pimped, wooden box type collectors item for the uber fans (I will be buying one!), not as an either/or with the "standard" line

but again, Im not speaking from ANY position of authority on this, only as someone who has all the old stuff, will buy all the new stuff and will also buy any additional super deluxe collectors edition :)

Just to throw it out there, and I don't care because I already have the original edition (E,I,K,Z decks), and have removed the most brokenly good and bad cards, subject to my taste.

I think Hanno is correct that a majority of current game purchasers will prefer to pay 30% less for a scaled down product. Remember we're talking about buyers who haven't yet acquired the game in its first ten years... Casual gamers will be more attracted by a more affordable product, and regular gamers may have enough games on their shelf that they either don't need the card variety or might prefer a more balanced selection. As for playing five, I think I've done it twice in eight years. I'm not saying there aren't new groups that will want to play weekly, or with five, but I doubt there are many of them.

So... even if I'd rather have my copy than a new edition, I think Uwe & Hanno are making a good decision, and if it benefits the majority of their buyers, it's hardly a predatory one.

off topic: but isn't the Z card one of the very overpowered "just for fun" decks like the X and L decks?

Yep. It was a bonus set included in the first print run of the original edition of the game. Most of the cards in it were, in the words of a late friend of mine, "too goofy" to merit using.

That's still the plan.
We absolutely underestimated the timeframe that Mr. Klemens Franz needs to create the amount of new artwork for all the new cards.

Agricola always has been and will remain a modular system. Depending on the players' needs they can add between nothing and everything.

The current specs for the Deluxe Revised edition list several 168 card decks plus major expansions like FotM, plus several goodies that were available only as a promo or only in German so far.

Some of the decks probably will be released in upcoming years.

Plus some kind of sorting trays, deck holders and whatever we'll come up with. Be assured that we're reading all the BGG threads on the deluxe edition, and we might have a first mock-up to showcase at SPIEL 17.
No promises. We won't rush the project, and we won't rush Klemens.

That's great to hear! It will also be sold in the U.S. yes? Will there be some sort of pre-ordering system so I can reserve a copy?

My apologies if I overlooked it in this thread, would this planned deluxe edition include the expansion that would allow us to play up to 6 players? I am more than glad that I have resisted buying the current edition of base game and expansion every time I look at those games for sale. At my FLGS!

very interested to hear how FotM will be tweaked to support the new family-less version of the game, given "Level 2" was the recommended/designed form in the original.

Yes, but you complain about publishers in many threads. Your reputation precedes you. I assume you feel you are a light unto the darkness, but I could easily put a different cast on it.

A friend, Christian, and i completed a trial of this campaign style game and really enjoyed it. We'll playing another one again soon. Below I outline each game with some comments related to it and then go into some overall comments.

Pre Game Changes:
Prior to starting the game we decided to only keep 1 occ and 1 minor as we thought it would be too valuable to permanently possess 2 of each after each subsequent game. Instead we picked a second minor and occ that we would add to our hand of 6 drafted cards in the next round. The losing player from each game would be able to draft the second occ and minor first. While the first one to be kept was always from your own occs and minors.

Game 1:
VanderKlassen (Christian): 27, Ludd (me): 38.
In this game we saw our first score in the 20s since as long as we can remember. We attributed this in part to storing resources for our own future success in addition to pulling sheep 4th and family growth 7th. We both stored a total of 5 resources.

Game 2:
VanderKlassen: 46, Ludd: 60 (-10) = 50. I realized at game end that I had reaped a grain and veg in the first round despite playing The Layabout. I opted to take a 10 point penalty despite protesting that it couldn’t possibly have affected the game that much.

Being able to sow grain and vegetables in the first round of the game is VERY powerful. Not sure yet if it is too powerful. Also being able to keep a minor and an occ into the next draft was helpful, but did not prove to be as useful as we had thought.

Game 3:
VanderKlassen: 55, Ludd: 55
Three food/family member for the third game felt right. It was challenging, but not too challenging and with some combos going we made it work and were able to score well. With the tie we decided to each pick a second occ and minor from our own.

Game 4:
VanderKlassen: 62, Ludd: 72
I managed to build the mansion this game, which I kept for the final game which was the definitive nail in the coffin for the VanderKlassen family. However, we thought this card was too powerful and thought it might be better as a major occupation available in any game along with the half-timbered house.

Game 5:
VanderKlassen: 76, Ludd: 96
I was just flying this last game getting a great draft that included tutor and scholar as well as a number of bonus point minors. I scored 27 in bonus points!

OVERALL:
We really enjoyed this variant. The key things that made it fun is being able to build up some very awesome combos. It was interesting trying to make choices about going for REALLY valuable minor improvements or occupations that would benefit future games. The balance of cards changes and creates a new meta which is quite fun to discover.
We both had a blast and will play this again soon.

FUTURE CHANGES:
Put the minor improvements “Mansion” and “Half Timbered House” in the major improvements section available for any game.
In game 5 make it so that each family member also requires 4 food (babies 1)

OUTSTANDING ISSUES:
We tied one game and I’m not sure how to resolve a tie when there are more than 2 people playing for picking second occupations and improvements.
Being able to store vegetables may be TOO strong, but was also very fun… We may remove this option

You just literally said "The thing you are buying is mediocre at best." This literally criticizes their judgment.

Please. It's obvious that the mediocrity judgement is a subjective conclusion about an object, and he "literally" flagged it as non-personal.

You're establishing a standard by which nobody could criticize anything, lest they upset those who happen to like it: "this coffee stinks" -> "HOW DARE YOU!!"

Once the dust settles, I'll likely buy whatever insane deluxe thing that comes out with all the doodads. And I don't feel criticized, nor would I care if I was.

I'm still curious what their business model is here. I don't see many people shelling out 150 dollars for the sake of completing the 120 card deck (I'm still not sure if these cards are part of the AG3 revision line, or future deluxe collectors edition, or a totally separate set of cards from Wizkids that have nothing to do with the official line). So I don't think they are trying to cash in, because I just dont believe they will sell very many of these, but I could be wrong. Are they hoping individual players might buy their "own" colour and kind of aggregate cards between groups? I dont see casual players shelling out 150 bucks for the set, and I dont see anyone wanting to play with one set of minis mixed with 4 sets of the standard discs or meeples.

Ive been thinking about whether you could buy the set, keep the cards, then sell off the minis to people who want those to offset the cost?

I've pimped all my Agricola sets out, my wife likes the bits, but Im not at all convinced these minis are practical, or fit with the rest of it (are they hoping to push their plastic deluxe minis for resources and animals alongside these?)

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. I don't think there's any need for bitterness, they're free to put out products as they see fit, I would imagine theyre aiming to make a bit of money out of it, nothing weird with that, I just dont really see a market for it, am I missing something?

Hi all,

I recently became a big fan of agricola and is trying to look for these decks online everywhere but it seems to be OOP long ago... is there anywhere I can print these cards at least?

Thanks!

Just keep an eye on the BGG marketplace - they do come up now and again; more frequently nowadays now that 'new Agricola' has become a CCG with minis.
